Palamu (Jharkhand), Sep 3 (ANI): Residents of ten villages in Jharkhand’s Palamu District have pooled resources to construct a dam to harness waters of the River Gauraha for irrigation.
The dam is now in its last phase of construction.
“We, all the villagers of 10 villages, have pledged that we will construct this dam whatever the circumstances will be. Whatever expectation we had from the ministers and leaders, they all have failed in their promises,” said Mustafa Khan, a villager.
Khan said when Jharkhand was carved out as a new state from Bihar, they had great expectations, which have come to nought.
The villagers pray everyday before starting their construction work.
Once the dam is ready, it will benefit 20 villages and irrigate 1,300 acres of land.
“The Gauraha River during rain has good amount of water and merge into the Koel River. But this time we are making a dam to take the flow of the river towards our village which will irrigate thousand acre of land and we will be prosperous,” said Uday Kumar Singh, villager.
The villagers have been working on the project for the past two weeks. (ANI)
