January 20th, 2010 - 12:54 pm ICT by ANI
Nagpur, Jan 20 (ANI): In wake of the Telangana Statehood issue, the Vidarbha Sangram Samiti in Vidarbha region has called for a shutdown on Wednesday demanding the creation of a separate Vidarbha state.
The Vidarbha Sangram Samiti includes political leaders from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who have come together to raise their demand for a separate Vidarbha state.
The supporters of the Vidarbha Sangram Samiti stopped the Mumbai-Nagpur Vidarbha Express, 30 kilometers outside Amravati for over half an hour today morning around 6:30 a.m.
The Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists are not participating in the shutdown for they are against the creation of a separate Vidarbha state.
All the schools and colleges in the region have been closed today following the shutdown.
Reports suggest that the agitation has evoked a limited response so far. (ANI)
