New Delhi, Nov.20 (ANI):: What can India and Europe do, together and separately, to help stabilise the emerging security situation in West Asia, the theatre of increasingly intense and complex conflicts by non-state actors and non-regional powers.
This will be the topic of discussions at an international conference to be inaugurated by the Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari, on Wednesday in New Delhi. Chinmaya Gharekhan, Indias Special Envoy for West Asia, will make the valedictory address on Thursday.
The conference on Emerging Security Concerns in West Asia is being jointly organised by Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation and Berlin-based Rosa Luxumburg Foundation of Germany.
The conference will look at a range of case studies like Iraq, Iran, Palestine and Lebanon to fully understand the emerging security situation in West Asia, and how it can be handled best.
While the conflict has been endemic in West Asia, the last few years have seen a change with apparently an increase in the intensity of the conflicts whether it is war between states or ethnic and sectarian strife.
Non-state and non-regional powers are also becoming entrenched in the conflicts while terrorism, especially suicide terrorism, seems to be becoming strategies of choice.
The two-day conference will also look at various aspects impacting the emerging security situation in the region, including role of ideology, ideological radicalization, political developments in the region and their impact on stability and security, role of external and regional powers and desirable policy options for India and Europe.
Many foreign scholars and experts like Prof. Faisal O. Al-Rfough, former Minister of Culture in Jordan, Prof. Norman Paech, MP of the German Bundestag, Dr. Michael Brie, vice-chairman, RLF, Dr. Siret Hursory (Turkey), Prof. Khaldoun H. Al-Naqeeb (Kuwait), Mr. Mohammed Wahby (Egypt), Dr. Werner Ruf, Dr. Sabine Hofmann, Dr. Claudia Haydt, Dr. Erhard Crome (all Europe), Dr. Sadegh Zibakalam (Iran) and Dr. Sahar Al Majali (Jordan) will take part in the conference besides domain experts from India.
