Vice President Ansari condoles demise of K. Subrahmanyam
February 2nd, 2011 - 4:54 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Feb 2 (ANI): Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has condoled the demise of K. Subrahmanyam, the doyen of the strategic affairs community in India, a distinguished former civil servant and a prolific writer.
Vice President Ansari in his condolence message said: “Subrahmanyam remains one of the key architects of our security policy doctrine. As founding director of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, he was one of the first to have actively encouraged and initiated a process of strategic analysis and thinking among policy makers, the media and even common citizens.”
“As convenor of the first National Security Advisory Board, he was instrumental in the drafting of our nuclear doctrine. His contribution as the Chairman of the Kargil Review Committee was seminal. He was instrumental in sensitising policy makers and citizenry to strategic issues and helping formulation of policy options to tackle them. His regular writings in newspapers simplified complex subjects to the lay public and will be sorely missed,” he added.
The Vice President further said: “My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and the wide circle of his admirers and friends and pray the Almighty to give them strength to withstand this loss.”
One of India’s well known analysts on strategic affairs, K. Subrahmanyam died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday night. He was 82.
Subrahmanyam, one of the most respected voices in India on global security affairs, was suffering from lung and cardiac problems. He was also suffering from cancer.
At the time of his death, he was the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Global Strategic Developments. (ANI)
