Uttarakhand Govt. organizes adventure sports camp for students
January 18th, 2010 - 7:44 pm ICT by ANIHaldwani (Uttarakhand), Jan. 18 (ANI): Students in Uttarakhand are being trained in adventure sports to achieve overall development and become fearless to respond to emergency situations.
Organized by the tourism department of the state, the ten-day adventure sports camp imparts training in rock climbing, rappelling, trekking, burma bridge, commando net and river rescue.
The camp also helped the students overcome their fears and pursue their career in this field too.
“Earlier I was scared of heights, but after getting trained in this camp, I have overcome all my fears. Now I am feeling absolutely fit and fine. Now I now what rescue measures need to be taken whenever there is an emergency situation like an earthquake or flood. We are also taught how to cross a river carefully if a bridge breaks down,” said Nidhi, a trainee.
She added that the camp not only made them aware of various disaster management techniques but also boosted their confidence.
“The tourism department organized this camp to expose the young students to adventure sports. Also, these camps help in the all round development of the students, they get to know about teamwork, co-operation and coordination. Overall, these camps should be organized more frequently, as it is very important for the personality development of the students,” said Lata Bisht, Adventure Sports Officer.
She added that Uttarakhand is a sensitive region and prone to natural calamities like earthquakes, landslides, floods, etc.; therefore it becomes very important for the young children to be well aware of the rescue operations. (ANI)
