Uttarakhand Government asks for CBI probe on Dehradun encounter

Dehradun, July 8 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, on Wednesday recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged police encounter that claimed the life of MBA student Ranbir Singh.
State Chief Secretary I. K. Pande said the state government has recommended a CBI probe.
A case of murder has been registered against 14 police officials, who were allegedly involved in the encounter.
According to the police Ranbir, who was riding a motorcycle along with two others, snatched the revolver of a sub-inspector when their two-wheeler was stopped during routine checking of vehicles in view of President Pratibha Patil’s visit. The three boys overpowered a sub-Inspector and fled from the scene. However, they were later killed in an encounter. Ranbir Singh’s autopsy showed 12 bullet marks and 27 other injuries..
The National Human Rights Commission has also demanded a CBI probe into the incident. (ANI)
