New Delhi, Aug 11 (ANI): United States new Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer presented his credentials this evening to President Pratibha Patil.
Krit Kraichitti, the Ambassador of Thailand, and Ahmad Tariq Karim, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh also presented their credentials to President Patil.
In her interaction with the envoys, President Patil said terrorism constitutes a grave threat to world peace, prosperity and stability and the international community needs to act swiftly and collectively to defeat it.
The President also said India is focusing on strengthening its infrastructure as well as social sector to bring about equitable development.
She added that India seeks friendly relations with all countries and to build cooperation in diverse sectors, including in education. The President queried about steps being taken in the three countries to tackle the H1N1 influenza.
Ambassador Roemer conveyed to President Patil the personal greetings of US President Barack Obama and good will of the people of America.
Ambassador Roemer relayed to President Patil the high priority President Obama places on advancing the already broad and deep people-to-people and official ties between India and the United States.
Speaking after the credential presentation ceremony, Ambassador Roemer noted, “As our governments work together on areas of significant mutual interests, I am struck by the commonalities between our nations - in our values, our democratic ideals and in the challenges and opportunities that we face.”
“I look forward to engaging with India’s leadership and people throughout the country to explore new directions and new solutions together as we strengthen our partnership for the prosperity, security, and democratic future of all our citizens,” he added.
Ambassador Roemer was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, Sally Johnston Roemer, his two older children, Patrick and Matthew Roemer and senior US embassy staff. (ANI)
