US Sikh leader congratulates Hillary for running a historic campaignJune 8th, 2008 - 2:48 pm ICT by ANI
Amritsar June 8, (ANI): American Sikh Leader Dr. Rajwant Singh congratulated Senator Hillary Clinton for running a historic and path breaking campaign to become Democratic presidential nominee before bowing out in favour of Senator Barack Obama.
Dr. Rajwant Singh joined the supporters of Senator Clinton at the National Building Museum in Washington when she ended her campaign for Presidency of the United States.
Talking to ANI over phone from Washington D. C., Singh said: Hillary has honoured all women with her historic campaign for presidency of the US. She stood up against all odds and harsh criticism with courage, grace, and dignity. She has filled us with pride at every turn in this long journey.
I was proud to support Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, but now a hard-fought and history-making primary contest with record turnout has come to an end, he added.
Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea joined Hillary on the stage when she extended her support to Senator Barack Obama, Democratic presidential nominee.
Clinton said, “My commitment to you and to the progress we seek is unyielding. You have humbled me with your commitment to our country. And looking out at you today, I have never felt so blessed. The challenges that I have faced in this campaign are nothing compared to those that millions of Americans face every day in their own lives.
So today, Im going to count my blessings and keep on going. Im going to keep doing what I was doing long before the cameras ever showed up and what Ill be doing long after theyre gone: Working to give every American the same opportunities I had, and working to ensure that every child has the chance to grow up and achieve his or her God-given potential, ” she added.
Singh said, By running for the highest office of the land, Hillary has laid to rest any doubts about whether a woman has what it takes to run for president. She showed Americans and the world that she has the strength, intelligence, determination, and passion to handle the enormous responsibilities of the presidency, including those of Commander-in-Chief. Her resilience under the harsh national spotlight will make it easier for every woman candidate who follows her.
He further added, “We will pray that she continues to play an important role in shaping this country’s destiny.
It was at Rajwant Singh fundraiser for the Senate election in 2006 when Hillary had joked that she was happy to be the “senator from Punjab as well as from New York.”
The Obama campaign team had criticized her close ties with India and the community, though he subsequently apologized for the remark. (ANI)
