US envoy offers condolences to survivors of Leh floods disaster
August 11th, 2010 - 7:27 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Aug.11 (ANI): United States Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer today offered his heart felt condolences to all those who had lost their loved ones in the devastating floods in the Choglumsar area near Leh in Ladakh.
Mourning the widespread death and destruction caused by the flash floods in the region, Roemer offered condolences to the government and people of India on behalf of the United States.
He said: “I have been following the news of the tragedy that has struck this extraordinarily scenic and beautiful region. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones and continue to suffer from the hardships caused by this disaster.”
“On behalf of the American people, I offer our deepest condolences to everyone affected. As always, the U.S. stands solidly beside India in its hour of grief. We are working closely with the Indian authorities as well as other governments whose citizens have been affected by the floods to ensure the safety and well being of our citizens,” he added.
“A team of officers from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi has travelled to Leh to provide assistance to U.S. citizens and others in the area. We are grateful to the Government of India for their assistance on behalf of American citizens affected by this tragedy,” Roemer said. (ANI)
