New Delhi, April 13 (ANI): The United States Ambassador to India, Timothy J. Roemer, here on Tuesday said the U.S. recognises that Prime Minister Singh shares President Obama’s bold vision for a nuclear weapons-free world, and applaud India’s robust track record on nuclear non-proliferation issues.
“The United States recognizes the dangers of nuclear terrorism and proliferation as the most extreme threat to global security, requiring coordinated, inspired and resolute action. We recognize that Prime Minister Singh shares President Obama’s bold vision for a nuclear weapons-free world, and applaud India’s robust track record on nuclear nonproliferation issues,” said Roemer in the national capital.
About Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s announcement on setting up of Global Center for Nuclear Energy Partnership in India, Roemer said: “India’s announcement of its intention to open a “Global Center for Nuclear Energy Partnership in India” with a special focus on training and research on safety, security, and proliferation prevention, demonstrates its commitment to leadership in this area. India has shown remarkable leadership on a global basis on this issue.”
Roemer further said: “This type of initiative reflects the understanding that we need to work together and take concrete steps towards securing nuclear and radiological material and we congratulate India for taking such initiative.”
“Our two countries look forward to the day when the nations and peoples of the world can rest secure, liberated from the threat and danger of nuclear weapons. The United States and India are committed to working closely together to ensure the realization of this bold dream,” he further added. (ANI)
