U.S. envoy declines to comment on WikiLeaks disclosure
March 18th, 2011 - 5:26 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Mar 18 (ANI): U.S. Ambassador to India, Timothy J. Roemer, on Friday declined to comment on the WikiLeaks disclosure that indicated that the Congress had paid lawmakers to survive a vote of confidence in 2008.
“Our government does not make a comment, does not respond to these diplomatic cables. We do not do that in India, we do not do that in Japan, we do not do that in London, and anywhere in the world. So I am not going to do that in Srinagar,” Roemer told reporters.
Roemer, who is on a two-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir, met school students here a day after meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
” I am here for two days and can’t meet everybody and we wanted to get the feel of the people, of the students, the future leaders of Jammu and Kashmir. Coming to a school like this, where you really get a sense that you are meeting the future leaders. It is a very important place in India and very talented people,” said Roemer.
This is his second visit to Jammu and Kashmir in six months.
In September 2010, Ambassador Roemer visited Leh to deliver 2.3 million rupees worth of relief supplies to 400 rural families affected by flash floods. (ANI)
