New Delhi, Aug 10 (ANI): Proceedings in both houses of Parliament on Tuesday were disrupted after the opposition attacked the UPA Government over Railway Minister and Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee’s comments at a rally in Lalgarh, West Bengal.
The opposition sought a clarification of Banerjee’s pro-Maoist remarks.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave a notice for suspension of Question Hour in the Lok Sabha and demanded a discussion on Mamata’s statement on Naxals.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, however, rejected the BJP notice, saying the issue would be discussed during Zero Hour.
The issue was also raised by the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, which had to be adjourned till noon following an uproar.
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, said: “I have given a notice for suspension of Question Hour to discuss a matter of serious importance.”
He, however, was not allowed to speak further by Congress members, who demanded that listed questions be taken up first.
Chairman Hamid Ansari repeatedly asked members to resume their seats so that Jaitley could make a statement, but his pleas went unheeded.
Ansari, then, adjourned the House till noon.
Addressing a public rally in Lalgarh, Banerjee said the way Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar, alias Azad was killed was not right and asked for a probe into his death.
“I feel the way Azad was killed is not correct. Swami Agnivesh had made him agree to hold talks (with the government). What happened was not correct. I feel the process (for holding talks with the Maoists) should start, she added.
Azad was killed in an encounter by Andhra Pradesh Police on July 2.
She also accused the Left Government of misrule in West Bengal, and said: “I don’t understand the language of guns. We have always won by democratic means.”
Banerjee also called for an end to the operation against the rebels to create a conducive environment for talks. (ANI)
