Uproar in Lok Sabha before price rise debate

Meira Kumar New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday following an uproar before price rise debate.

Opposition members began protesting and held up placards in the House.

Following this, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house till 11:40 a.m. .

Lok Sabha was to debate the issue of rising prices today, followed by the tabling and adoption of resolutions.

There was a ruckus in Rajya Sabha as well over the Commonwealth Games issue. The House was adjourned till 12 noon.

On Monday, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had a breakfast meeting with Opposition leaders and managed to reach a compromise formula that stalled Parliament all of last week.

The compromise formula includes a resolution, which will be adopted in both houses of Parliament that the text will focus on the impact of the price rise.

BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Left leaders Gurudas Dasgupta, Basudeb Acharya and A B Bardhan, SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav and JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav were among those who attended Monday’s meeting.

From the government side, Union Ministers P Chidamabaram, Pawan Kumar Bansal and Prithvi Raj Chauhan were present.

The month-long Monsoon session of Parliament, which started on July 26, has not been able to transact any business so far.

Earlier, Meira Kumar rejected the opposition’s demand for a vote on the price rise issue.

Kumar said price rise is a matter of concern and may be discussed in any form other than an adjournment motion. (ANI)
