Unified Commanders Conference concluded in New Delhi today

New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): Jointness amongst the Armed Forces received a boost in the Unified Commanders Conference 2008, which concluded here today,

It emphasized on a tri-service approach in our defence services in keeping with the varied security challenges faced by the nation.

The requirement of building duality of use in our force structure to meet both immediate, short term challenges and long term planning to ensure adequate preparedness for both the Western and Eastern Fronts was also highlighted.

The Conference, which focused on the areas of cooperation and integration amongst the three Services, deliberated on the future of Joint HQs, Joint Commands and Tri-Service Institutions.

An overview given by Headquarters, Andaman and Nicobar Command, the only tri-services command, emphasized the unique manner in which integration had been achieved for a joint services approach to meet any threat.

Tri-services training institutions like the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and the National Defence Academy, Pune also highlighted the changes being brought about in the curriculum to meet the evolved mandate of joint services operations.

Aspects that are required to speeding the pace of integration and strengthening of existing structures were discussed.

The Conference concluded with the closing address of Lieutenant General HS Lidder, CISC of Integrated Defence Staff, stressed on the need to carry forward the vision of Victory through Jointness and underscored the need for an Integrated organisation. (ANI)
