Underprivileged children enjoy a day of amusement in Chennai
November 22nd, 2010 - 9:05 pm ICT by ANIChennai, Nov.22 (ANI): Over 2,000 underprivileged children enjoyed a day of entertainment including a platform to display their creative traits at an event, which was organised by the Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC) in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai city on Sunday.
The AIESEC was formed in 1948 as an organisation to help develop ‘friendly relations’ between various countries.
Scores of children drew paintings, while the others danced on the occasion along with AIESEC volunteers.
The volunteers here said that it was a way through which the children could express their inner emotions and reveal their artistic traits.
“What we basically do is we focus on getting about 2500 underprivileged orphans from various NGOs and Government homes in Tamil Nadu and give them a day of entertainment,” said Dewakar, an AIESEC member.
“We had organised this last year as well for about 1000 children and it was a massive success. In fact this year, as you can see there are about 2200 children present from various NGOs in Tamil Nadu,” he added.
The children seemed to enjoy every moment including a tasty lunch.
“This is the second time I have come for this Balakalakar Programme conducted by AIESEC and its enjoyable and fun time here with cultural programmes, compared to last year there are more number of students like me this time and we enjoyed the day and we thanked the organisation for having provided the opportunity,” said Manikandan, a underprivileged child.
Volunteers were in a belief that the step taken by the AIESEC is to build an environment that improves the quality of life for the children who are devoid of the rights.
AIESEC has several branches in India, functioning in almost all the universities and allied academic institutions. (ANI)
