Ultrasound conducted on a tigress in ‘Van Vihar National Park’ to save her life
October 31st, 2009 - 10:22 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Bhopal, Oct 31(ANI): In a first of its kind incident in India, a team of veterinary doctors performed an ultrasound on an ailing tigress in Bhopal’s Van Vihar National Park.
The test detected Priya, the ailing tigress, had developed an infection in her kidneys and uterus due to which she was not taking any meal for one month.
Dr. Atul Gupta, a veterinary doctor from the Van Vihar National Park, termed the ultrasound as ‘challenging’, as it was very difficult to anaesthetize the tigress.
“We checked each and every organ of her body thoroughly and spotted an infection in her kidneys and uterus. We performed this medical examination to confirm the disorder that our medical team had diagnosed earlier,” Dr. Gupta added.
According to the Director of the Van Vihar National Park, S S Rajput, the tigress was having health problems for one month due to which she had refused to take any food. It was later decided to conduct an ultrasound on Priya to confirm the reason behind her illness.
Rajput now said that after the ultrasound Priya had been responding well to the medical treatments, and she was back to her normal diet.
“Priya was suffering from certain health problems for one month. Earlier, we treated her with preliminary antibiotics, but she did not respond well to it. So, we had to call in the doctors from the veterinary department, who diagnosed an infection in kidney and uterus and since then, she has been responding well to the treatment and is back to her normal diet,” Rajput said.
He also informed that the tigress was rescued from a circus and is eleven years old. (ANI)
