Two top UFLA leaders released in Guwahati
January 11th, 2011 - 6:50 pm ICT by ANIGuwahati, Jan.11 (ANI): The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom’s foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury and finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika were released from the Guwahati Central Jail on Tuesday.
Choudhury and Hazarika were granted bail on Monday by a special TADA court paving the way for their release. They were arrested in Bangladesh in November 2009 and were handed over to India.
Besides ULFA Deputy Chief Arabind Rajkhowa, the other jailed ULFA leaders who were released on bail include advisor Bhimakanta Buragohain, vice chairman Pradip Gogoi, deputy commander-in-chief Raju Barua, publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary and cultural secretary Pranati Deka.
The ULFA leaders were released after the government decided not to oppose their bail application to facilitate the process of peace talks. (ANI)
