Two soldiers killed in Kashmir shootout with Lashkar

Jammu, Jan 1 (IANS) Two Indian Army soldiers were killed in a shootout with suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday, defence sources said.The gun battle, which was still on, erupted in the evening after the army laid a cordon around Pati Tar, a forested area in Mendhar in the border district of Poonch, on information that a group of LeT terrorists was hiding there, the sources said.

The hiding militants opened fire on the soldiers resulting in the death of two personnel, the sources said. The exact number of guerrillas involved in the gun fight is not known.

Reinforcement of security forces is being rushed to the spot, the source said.
