Two soldiers killed by militants in Kashmir
January 1st, 2011 - 9:34 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Jan 1 (IANS) Two soldiers were killed by militants in Gool area in Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir Saturday, an army officer said.”The army has launched an operation to trace the militants,” the officer told IANS on Saturday evening.
Territorial Army personnel had launched an operation against militants in Gool, a mountainous area Saturday but hidden militants opened fire on the approaching soldiers and killed two of them. The slain soldiers have been identified as Mohammad Khalid and Mohammad Shariq.
Territorial army is mostly of local young men trained to fight militants in the hilly areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
The army sent reinforcements to trace out the militants, the officer said.
The mountainous terrain and thick forests and snow were hampering the operations.
