Two more militants arrested in CRPF camp attack case, ISRO was target too

Mumbai, Feb 11 (ANI): The special task force of Uttar Pradesh police today arrested two more militants for their alleged involvement in the January 1 attack on the CRPF camp.

The arrested militants have disclosed that Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was also on their target.

According to police sources, Gulab Khan, who was arrested today, had offered his motor garage for storing the weapons used in the attack in which eight persons, including seven security personnel, were killed.

One of the arrested militants, Mohammad Sharif, had allegedly kept the weapons in Khan’s garage, sources said.

The STF also arrested one Mohammad Kausar, a resident of Pratapgarh district, in whose house some of the weapons were also kept, sources said.

The two were produced before a district court here which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.

Security was stepped up at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday in the wake of the disclosure by the arrested six suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militants that they were planning to target the financial hub.

A team of police officials from Maharashtra has left for Uttar Pradesh to interrogate the militants arrested on Sunday.

“We have received information that six militants have been caught in up and one of them is from Mumbai. We are verifying the same,” an officer of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) said here today.

The officer said “we have also been told that one of the targets of the militants was BSE, where we have increased security.”

Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested six LeT militants for their alleged involvement in attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur on January 1 this year.

According to sources, these militants are also suspected to be involved in the attack on Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.

Three suspected militants - Suhail, Arshad Ali alias Baba and Fahyeem - were arrested from Rampur, while Salahuddin who hails from Bihar, and two residents of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) - Imran and Farooq were arrested from Lucknow, sources said.

Salahuddin is said to be the brain behind the Rampur as well as Bangalore attack.

Two AK47 rifles, pistol, five grenades and a large number of cartridges were recovered from their possession.

At least seven personnel belonging to CRPF and one civilian were killed in the militants attack in Rampur and an IIT Professor was killed in the Bangalore attack. (ANI)
