Two militants killed in Kashmir gunfight (Lead)
May 25th, 2011 - 4:15 pm ICT by IANS Srinagar, May 25 (IANS) Two guerrillas were killed in a seven-hour gun battle
between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district Wednesday, police said.
A group of militants had taken shelter inside a two-storeyed house in Laribal village, 76 km from here, a police officer said.
“The house was surrounded by troops of 21 Rashtriya Rifles and local police. The militants were asked to surrender, but they started indiscriminate firing at the troops, triggering a gunfight.
“The house which the militants were using as a fortified bunker has been destroyed in the gunfight,” the officer said.
“Bodies of two militants have been recovered. The identity of the militants is being established,” the officer said.
