Srinagar, March 30 (IANS) Two foreign militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit were gunned down in a south Kashmir gun battle with security forces Monday, the police said.
Army troops in a joint operation with the police surrounded a house in Moshwara village of south Kashmir Shopian district, 40 km from here in the morning.
“The operation was launched on specific information about presence of militants in a house. As the security forces surrounded the house, hiding militants opened fire at them. The troops also returned the fire, triggering an encounter, at the end of which two foreign militants were killed,” a police spokesman said.
The slain militants belong to the Hizbul Mujaheedin, sources said.
Arms and ammunition have also been recovered after the shootout, during which one policeman was wounded.
The house was destroyed during the gunfight.
