Two dead, five injured in BSF and marijuana smugglers clash in TripuraJanuary 19th, 2009 - 11:09 pm ICT by ANI
Agartala, Jan.19 (ANI): At least two person were killed and five wounded, including a para-trooper of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday in Dupuria village during a gun-battle in bordering village of west Tripura.
According to the BSF officials, the exchange of fire started in relation to smuggling of marijuana to Bangladesh. The incident occurred at Durpuria Village is 55 kilometres southwest from here under Kalamchora police station.
“Our soldiers, based on information of smuggling of huge quantity of marijuana through point rushed to the spot, but they were injured by a group of smugglers with sharp weapons and even guns. In this, one of the soldiers suffered bullet injury,” said A. K Singh, the Deputy Inspector General of the Border Security Force.
“The smugglers again attacked the BSF while they were trying to evacuate the injured soldier to hospital and in this process one of the soldier in self-defense had fired few rounds in which two smugglers died and few others were injured,” the Deputy DIG added.
Among the injured was fourteen-year-old Juel Hussain, said: “I was running from the field on seeing two bodies. But I was hit by a bullet and after that I fell unconscious.”
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities where the injured person were rushed to said that condition of the two of the injured who underwent surgery to remove the bullet, remains to be serious. (ANI)
