Srinagar, Dec 22 (IANS) Three policemen were injured Tuesday evening when separatist guerrillas ambushed a police patrol in Kashmir’s Pampore town, a police official said. Two of them succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
A senior police officer said guerrillas fired indiscriminately at the police patrol in Kadalbal area of the town, 15 km from Srinagar, famous for growing the world’s best saffron.

“Two policemen and a special police officer (SPO) were wounded in the attack and two of them, including the SPO, succumbed to their injuries in the Soura Medical Institute where they had been brought for treatment,” the official told IANS.

The condition of the other wounded policeman is stated to be serious.

No guerrilla group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Last week, guerrillas attacked a squad of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the apple-rich Sopore town in north Kashmir. Four CRPF troopers and a civilian were injured.
