Two black bucks find a home at Patna Zoo
May 2nd, 2010 - 5:31 pm ICT by ANIPatna, May 2 (ANI): The Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park in Patna has rehabilitated two black bucks after they were rescued from the captivity of certain villagers who had kept them as pets.
Reportedly, some locals in Aarah district rescued these black bucks and handed them over to the Patna Zoo.
Among the two, one happened to be a fawn and this was released among other black bucks at the zoo while the mother has been kept isolated for medical observation.
“We have checked the child and now it is with the group and the mother is under observation in the hospital. She is doing fine and was looking healthy and there was no sign of any wound on her body,” said Abhay Kumar, Director, Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park.
Blackbuck is a species of antelope found mainly in India, and also in some parts of Nepal and Pakistan.
The main threats to the species are poaching, predation, habitat destruction, overgrazing, diseases and above all, visitors at the sanctuary upsetting their ‘rhythm of natural life style’.
The blackbuck is hunted for its flesh and its skin. (ANI)
