TRS joins hand with TDP to defeat CongressFebruary 1st, 2009 - 2:24 pm ICT by ANI
Hyderabad, Feb 1 (ANI): The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has formed a coalition with the Grand Alliance led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections against the Congress.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) are the other constituents of the alliance.
TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao accompanied by other party leaders met TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu and formally joined the alliance.
Rao said that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti has joined the Grand Alliance with an aim to defeat Congress in the coming by-poll.
Both the sides are yet to reveal the number of seats to be shared by them.
However, it is expected that the TDP will give nine Lok Sabha seats in the Telangana region to the TRS.
Though the Praja Rajyam Party led by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi had agreed to give the desired number of seats, the party decided to join hands with the Telugu Desam Party, as many senior party leaders felt that only Naidu’’s party had the strength to compete with the ruling Congress.
