November 30th, 2009 - 9:12 pm ICT by ANI Tell a Friend -

Hyderabad, Nov.30 (ANI): The activists of ‘Telangana Rashtra Samiti’ (TRS) resorted to violence during their shutdown in Hyderabad on Monday in protest of the arrest of their leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

On Sunday (Nov. 29), the police had arrested TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Karimnagar town as he had planned to undertake a fast unto death.

Daylong shutdown called by the TRS paralysed normal life in the region.

Educational institutions and business establishments remained closed in all the 10 districts of the region while State-owned road transport corporations suspended its bus services.

In Hyderabad, the TRS workers took to streets, enforcing the shutdown and staging protests. The protesters damaged several vehicles during their protest.

TRS, which has been spearheading a campaign for a separate Telangana state, joined hands with Congress party in 2004 to fight regional and national polls and the government had promised to consider its demand for a separate State.

Later, TRS withdrew support from the UPA saying that the progress on the issue was slow and Congress had “betrayed” his party. (ANI)
