Agartala, 26 Jan (ANI): People in Tripura participated in Republic Day celebrations, defying the militant’s boycott call.
The main programme was organised at the Assam Rifles parade ground, where Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahay unfurled the national flag.
Sahaya inspected the parade and took the guard of honour. Later, he gave the Presidents Commemoration disk to security personnel.
Addressing the citizen, Sahay said, Tripura has made remarkable development recently and many more in the pipeline.
He also praised upon the latest addition in the education and health sector including a central university, two medical colleges, NIT and technical institutes.
Different paramilitary forces, state police and NCC cadets participated in the parade, which was followed by a colourful cultural programme.
Sima Saha, a participant, said the militants boycott had no impact of the people and they are participating in large number here.
Anticipating possible attack by militant organizations of the region, security has been beefed up in the state.
According to official sources, the militant organizations of Northeast those boycotted the celebrations are from United Liberation Front of Asom (UIFA), Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO) and three major groups of the state, All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). (ANI)
