Trinamool Congress party has received black money for elections: Buddhadeb
April 24th, 2011 - 8:59 pm ICT by ANIKolkata, Apr 24(ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya on Sunday alleged that the Trinamool Congress party has received huge sums of black money for the ongoing assembly elections in the state.
Bhattacharya said the Election Commission is probing into the matter and truth would come out soon.
“It is being said that the Trinamool Congress has received huge amounts of black money. Once election gets started, it is the duty of Election Commission to monitor the movements of black money among the political parties. We have got in touch with the Election Commission and I can say that the Election Commission is looking into it. They are on the job,” Bhattacharya said.
The Chief Minister further said that the development of agriculture and small-scale industries are the main agenda for his party and a proper plan is being laid for the upliftment of villages of the province.
“Our main priority is agriculture. A proper work out will be planned which will result agriculture and rural development. We want to take it a more improved level. It is a part of our manifesto to provide an improved ration system for the common people of the state,” Bhattacharya said.
He also laid stress on the industrial development in Kolkata so that young people can get better job opportunities within the province itself.
“We are trying to industrialize the state and to extend our business activities that are most important so far Kolkata is concerned. Economy of Kolkata must grow and only business can help it otherwise you can not create job opportunities for young people of this metropolitan city,” Bhattacharya said.
West Bengal’s 294-member legislature will have assembly elections in six phases.
The first and second phase of voting took place on April 18 and 23 respectively.
The third phase will take place on April 27, fourth phase on May 03, fifth phase on May 07 and sixth phase on May 10.
The Left Front, led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), has been in power in West Bengal for more than three decades.
Presently, it is facing a tough challenge from provincial main opposition Trinamool Congress and its ally Congress, who have stepped up pressure by raising simmering issues such as Maoist insurgency, corruption, and unemployment. (ANI)
