Tributes paid to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 104th birth anniversary

New Delhi, Apr 5 (ANI): Several functions are being organised across the country to pay tributes to freedom fighter and Former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jajivan Ram on his 104th birth anniversary on Tuesday.
Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Miera Kumar, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and several Union Ministers offered floral tributes at his samadhi -Samata Sthal.
Floral tributes were also offered at his portrait in the Central hall of Parliament by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh among others.
A Shobha Yatra is being taken out later in the day to mark the occasion. A memorial lecture is also being organised this evening.
Meanwhile in Hyderabad, recalling his services, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy described Jagjivan Ram as an able parliamentarian who championed the cause of the poor and the downtrodden in the country until he breathed his last in July 6, 1986.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram remained a Member of Parliament till his death in 1986 after over 40 years as a parliamentarian.
His uninterrupted representation in the Parliament from 1936 to 1986 was a world record, until Tony Benn overtook him by serving 51 years in the British parliament. (ANI)
