Transgender candidate to contest Tamil Nadu polls

Chennai, Mar. 12 (ANI): A transgender has filed an application to contest the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu.

Representing the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, Rose Venkatesan said: “Tamil Nadu is one of the foremost states in this country where transgender people are given recognition.”

Venkatesan added: I think now is the correct time for me to enter politics.I can voice my community’s rights. I think political representation from a minority community brings about change in that the community.”

Venkatesan will contest from Tamil Nadu’s Karur District.

“In India, I am not the first politician from the transgender community. We have already seen Shabnam Mausi from Uttar Pradesh. Mausi was a legislator for about five years. When it comes to Tamil Nadu, I am the first transgender politician,”said Venkatesan.

Venkatesan hosts a current affairs talk show under the name of Ippadikku Rose. (ANI)
