Bangalore, Dec 12 (ANI): The toll in the Tuesday night building collapsed in Bangalore has risen to seven. Other eighteen people were injured when a balcony of an old residential building collapsed here.
The balcony was the first to collapse to be followed by the rest of the building.
Speaking to media persons, Sub Inspector Biju Kumar Singh, said that three were brought dead and four died at the hospital taking the toll of the dead to seven.
Construction work of the building was not properly done and over the period of wear and tear, repair work has not been taken up in an earnest manner,” Singh added.
The Bangalore city corporation building, which was said to be very old, is located at Nehrupura in the citys Bharathi Nagar area.
The tragedy took place when relatives of Haroon Pasha, a fruit merchant had come for his daughter’s engagement were standing near the balcony, which was not able to withstand the load and gave way.
“The incident took place around 8:30-9:00 in the night. Within a short while, the balcony and some parts of the building had collapsed,” said Arif, Haroon Pasha’s neighbour. (ANI)
