Tiny tots in Siliguri say no to crackers
October 10th, 2009 - 2:55 pm ICT by ANISiliguri, Oct 10 (ANI): Hundreds of tiny tots here staged a march to spread awareness against crackers ahead of Diwali festival.
Diwali is just a week away on Saturday. Traditionally, people celebrated the festival of light by lighting earthen lamps in and around their houses.
They marched through the city in costumes resembling crackers and holding posters with messages like ‘Diwali is a festival of light, not of crackers’ and ‘No crackers, no pollution’.
“We want to create awareness among children that they should not burst crackers which make loud noise and create pollution,” said Sukanya Dev, a teacher at the Bright Academy.
Pupils said they learnt a lesson how to celebrate the festival of light safely and without damaging environment.
“We were told not to use loud noise-making crackers. We should always burst cracker with safety and in presence of parents,” said Priyadarshini Thapa, a Pupil at the Bright Academy.
These little ambassadors’ efforts in creating awareness about celebrating safe and pollution free Diwali will start from home as many of them vouched to stay away from crackers. (ANI)
