Tibetans keen on talks with China
January 30th, 2010 - 2:35 pm ICT by ANIDharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), Jan 30 (ANI): Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Samdhong Rinpoche has said the resumption of talks with China is important for the solution of the Tibetan cause.
Addressing the media in Dharamshala, Rinpoche said, “We are happy that the process of dialogue is being continued after around 15 months of interval. Of course we don’t expect some miracle to happen after these talks.”
“But to continue the process is very important because this is the only way to find a solution to the Tibetan problem,” he added.
Rinpoche also noted that the Tibetans would continue with their demand for overall autonomy of their homeland.
“We have submitted a memorandum on the general autonomy last time in the eighth round of dialogue. And now we will be able to continue, to pursue on that subject, how to implement the general autonomy of the constitutional provisions to the Tibetan people,” he said.
It may be recalled that the Dalai Lama’s special envoys Lodi G Gyari and Envoy Kelsang Gyaltsen arrived in China on Tuesday (January 26) for the ninth round of negotiations that had been stalled since 2008.
As per reports the two sides are engaged in talks at an undisclosed location in China.
The two sides have held eight rounds of talks since 2002, but little of substance has been achieved.
The last round of discussions in July 2008 ended in acrimony. (ANI)
