Tibetans in exile demonstrate against China in New Delhi
March 9th, 2011 - 3:31 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 9(ANI): Scores of Tibetans in exile on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy in New Delhi against China.
The protestors accused China of violating human rights.
Tenzin, a Tibetan activist, said: “This the eve of 52nd year of China’s occupation of Tibet. We are struggling for freedom. We don’t have any human rights in Tibet. Everyone there is under the China’s rule”
“We are expecting the Indian government to help us in attaining freedom. ” Tenzin added.
Large numbers of security personnel were deployed outside the Chinese embassy.
Protestors resisted and scuffled with security personnel, while being removed from the site.
Stanzin, another Tibetan activist, emphasised China for “repression” of Tibet.
“Though they have said that they developed Tibet but that is not the truth. There are lots of rural Tibetans who have been under the repression of China. We want China to tell the truth,” said Stanzin.
The Tibetan uprising began on March 10, 1959, when a revolt erupted in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, which had been under the effective control of the Communist Party of China.
An estimated 80,000 Tibetans along with their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, arrived in India in 1959 after an unsuccessful uprising against the Chinese rule in Tibet. (ANI)
