Tibetans express concern over climate change impasse
December 13th, 2009 - 12:27 pm ICT by ANIDharamsala, (Himachal Pradesh), Dec 13 (ANI): Exiled Tibetans have urged the public to consume less power to lessen the impact of global warming.
Participating in a panel discussion on climate change, the speakers put forth their views and said small steps taken in this direction could make a huge difference.
Tsering Yangkyi, Director, Tibetan Environmental Awareness Movement said, by taking small measures the general public could combat climate.
“By doing small things locally, we can make a difference. Everybody should know about climate change to make a difference. Turning off electricity, using local transport, using less water, you know these kind of things are all what we can do as a general public to combat climate change,” Yangkyi said.
The Tibetan’s Women Association (TWA) and the Students for Free Tibet (SFT) jointly organised the panel discussion.
The Tibetan Plateau is undergoing climate change three times as fast as compared to the rest of the world.
In Copenhagen, representatives of 192 countries have gathered to discuss ways to arrest climate change. (ANI)
