Tibetans exiles take out candlelight march in Dharamsala against China
March 6th, 2010 - 1:16 pm ICT by ANIDharamsala, Mar 6 (ANI): Scores of Tibetan exiles and monks took out candlelight vigil here to condemn the sentences given to Tibetans in Lhasa by China.
As per a newspaper report in Lhasa, the city government ordered ’strike hard’ campaign, which covers all prefectures that fall under the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR), a large part of what was previously Tibet on March 3.
There are orders to “strike hard against all kinds of criminal activities and to vigorously uphold the social order stability,” according to the report.
Buddhist monks and nuns and other Tibetans including some foreigner supporters participated in the candle light vigil on Friday to condemn the campaign.
“We are organizing a candle light vigil to protest against those sentences and we are demanding China to release those Tibetans including all Tibetan political prisoners that are currently in Tibet in jail.” Tsewang Rigzin, President of Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC).
Tibetan exiles in India believe that by this campaign Chinese authorities are gearing up for potential unrest on what is known as the Uprising Day.
China has controlled Tibet since troops of the People’s Liberation Army took over the region in 1950.
Beijing considers Tibet an integral part of its territory. (ANI)
