July 10th, 2008 - 8:08 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, July 10 (ANI): Tibetan protesters today staged a rally here, carrying the Tibetan Freedom Torch that is traveling to all major cities of the globe.
Tibetans-in-exile have been holding rallies and demonstrations across the world to highlight their objections to Chinas repressive policies in Tibet.
Wearing yellow headbands and shirts with the imprint of the slogan “Save Tibet”, the protesters carried Tibetan flags to symbolize their struggle for Tibetan independence.
Nafisa Ali, a social activist, expressed admiration for the spirit of the Tibetans in keeping their struggle for independence alive.
“I admire them because they are a very small group of people, if you think of the world, if you think of the population of China and international communities, Tibetans are a very small percentage, but they have maintained their struggle, for that the true Gandhian Indians that we are, I admire them and they deserve what their due is,” said Ali.
The ‘’symbolic torch” arrived in India after passing through 40 nations, and will have its last leg on the India. Tibet border on August 8, the day when the Beijing Olympics begin.
China has resumed fence-mending talks with envoys of the Dalai Lama a move that could burnish its international image weeks before the Olympics.
This is second closed-door meeting between the Dalai Lamas representatives and the Chinese government since rioting erupted in Tibet in March.
About 134,000 Tibetans live in exile, a vast majority of them in India or Nepal. Of them, less than half were born in Tibet. (ANI)
