Dharamsala, Aug 6 (ANI): Tibetan exiles-living-in Dharamsala are to intensify their anti-China protests to draw international attention to the Tibetans ”freedom struggle” as the Beijing Olympics just round the corner.
They said that they are planning demonstrations even as Beijing hosts the games. They said that they have received a ‘’surprisingly” large number of calls in support of the Tibet issue.
“The mood of the people is generally upbeat and they are excited. We have pasted poster all over the town and we are receiving calls. People want to show their voice,” said Tenzin Tcheoying, President, Students For Free Tibet (SFT).
Students for a Free Tibet had earlier said that it was planning protests at Chinese embassies and consulates and other public areas in cities around the world, but declined to give details of what was planned for Beijing due to security concerns.
Meanwhile, the exiles in the region said that though they are disappointed with China hosting the Olympics, but they have not lost hope.
“We are disappointed with the Beijing Olympic Committee. They are disappointed but they haven”t lost their hope and aspirations. They are waiting for the NGOs to do something,” said Dicky, a Tibetan exile.
The Chinese Government says that the followers of the Dalai Lama fomented protests and riots across the mountain region in March in a bid to derail the Olympics, which start from August 8.
The Dalai Lama has rejected accusations that he is behind the unrest and has supported the Chinese right to host the Olympics. (ANI)
