Three police personnel nabbed on suspicion of supplying arm to Maoists
May 1st, 2010 - 12:05 pm ICT by ANILucknow/Rampur (UP), May 1 (ANI): Sleuths of the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh tracked down and rounded up three security personnel along with one retired police officer on suspicion of stealing and supplying ammunitions to the Maoists in Rampur.
Among the arrested, two are armourers of the Central Reserve Police Force and a retired armourer of the state police.
It was clarified that a huge cache of cartridges used in INSAS rifle, AK-47, .38 bore revolver, 9mm pistol and 7.62 bore SLR rifle was recovered by the police from the arrested persons.
The STF personnel also recovered a huge amount of empty cartridges shells along with five ammunition boxes, parts of firearms and rupees 176,000 in cash.
Speaking to media persons, Brij Lal, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order and Crime) Uttar Pradesh, informed that they suspect the gang was supplying arms and ammunition to the Maoists and insurgents in various parts of the country.
“Our main suspicion is that these bullets could have been supplied to Naxalites, but right now I can not confirm it. Because the probability of such a huge cache of ammunition being sold to criminals or gangsters, is very less,” said Brij Lal. (ANI)
