Three People’s Liberation Army militants surrender in Imphal
September 6th, 2010 - 10:28 pm ICT by ANIImphal, Sep. 6 (ANI): Three People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants surrendered before the Assam Rifles here on Monday.
The surrendered cadres have been identified as Ronenson alias Joychandra Singh, Momo alias Naoba Meitei and Gokul Meitei.
All the three militant cadres surrendered with their arms, which included an US made M-16 rifle, an AK-47 rifle and 9mm pistol with several rounds of live ammunitions for each.
Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Major General C A Krishnan said the Myanmar government has been very cooperative at the highest level, which in turn facilitated this surrender.
“There is a lot of cooperation between the Myanmari government and our government and at our level we have a lot of regular post meetings with the Myanmar government and Myanmar Army. They are very cooperative in this regard and recently at the highest level there has been exchanges,” he added.
“And there have been newspaper reports that both the countries have agreed to cooperate at the highest level and I am sure it will materialise and we shall be seeing the results soon,” said Major General C A Krishnan.
Director General of Police, Manipur Y Joykumar Singh, said peace is vital for a progressive society and it is heartening to note the Assam Rifles would leave no stone unturned to bring back the misguided youths into the main stream.
Major General Krishnan also mentioned that Manipur state has one of the best rehabilitation packages for such surrendered militants.
“Manipur state has one of the best rehabilitation packages and the state government, the state police, the media, the society and us, we have to work in cooperation to see that it is actually put into effect properly,” said Major General C A Krishnan.
Family members of the surrendered militants and top brass of Assam Rifles also attended the ceremony. (ANI)
