The Queen getting ready to retire?October 5th, 2008 - 2:21 pm ICT by ANI
London, October 5 (ANI): The Queen is reportedly keen on shifting her work from the Buckingham Palace to her favourite royal residence, Windsor Castle, where she will be holding the investiture ceremonies - for the first time.
Her Majesty is said to be eager to give herself long weekends and more days in the week in the castle, keeping in mind her advancing age, reports the Daily Express.
Though she allegedly wants to spend more time in the castle that has been a royal home and fortress for more than 900 years, Buckingham Palace shall at all times remain her official office and residence.
The 82-year-old monarch, who has resolved never to abdicate, has always insisted on fulfilling her vows to serve her country and the Commonwealth until her last day.
However, she might hand over the reins of power to her heir - if her poor health stopped her from performing her royal duties.
Though no royal official has confirmed her retirement, the ceremonies of presenting honours at Windsor perhaps might just be it’’s beginning.
This year, at least, would see the Queen holding 2 of the 22 investitures ceremonies at Windsor, including Prince Charles” 60th birthday, and following their success perhaps even more in the near future.
Meanwhile, it raises the important question if the ceremonies at Windsor instead of Buckingham Palace will lessen the experience for those deserving their honours.
But perhaps majority of the people consider meeting the Queen herself as the biggest honour. (ANI)
