Warangal, Dec 27 (ANI): The students of Kakatiya University staged a protest march at Warangal here, demanding the creation of a separate Telangana state.
The Centre has put on hold the Telangana issue at present.
Holding placards and effigies, the students converged at a mass rally, where they burnt effigies and carried a mock funeral of political leaders opposing the creation of Telangana state.
The students were later baton charged by the police, who detained a large number of students and other activists during the protest. The police later released them.
The fast-unto-death launched by students of the Osmania University and the Kakatiya University has entered the third day on Saturday.
The situation in Andhra Pradesh had tensed up on Thursday after the Central Government put on hold its decision to initiate the process for the formation of the Telangana State.
In response, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), which is leading the movement for a separate State of Telangana had called for a 48-hour shutdown.
Home Minister P Chidambaram had made a brief statement on Wednesday night saying wide ranging consultations would be held to come out with a final solution on Telangana.
TRS chief K Chadrasekhar Rao (KCR) has asked the Central Government to announce the commencement of the process for carving out a Telangana state by Monday. (ANI)
