Telagu superstar Chiranjeevi’’s party fails to get an election symbol
March 3rd, 2009 - 3:45 pm ICT by ANIHyderabad, Mar. 3 (ANI): The Election Commission has turned down the plea of Telagu superstar Chiranjeevi’’s party to allot a common symbol to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. EC pointed out, in order to get a common symbol, a party should get at least six per cent votes and two MLAs to get registered as a regional party. Chiranjeevis Praja Rajyam, which was launched in August last year, has not contested elections as yet. Prajarajyam wanted a rail engine as a common symbol. Earlier, Chiranjeevi had challenged the EC’’s decision before the Andhra Pradesh High Court. However, the plea was rejected again. The Commission said that only recognized parties were eligible for permanent election symbols, while registered parties will have to choose from the free symbols available. (ANI)
