Team India could top ICC ODI rankings by January end
January 3rd, 2010 - 10:09 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 3(ANI) Victory in the tri-nation series in Bangladesh coupled with Australia defeats in their series against Pakistan will see Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team India flying high to the top of the ICC ODI Championship table by the end of January.
India, which is already in possession of the coveted mace for being the number-one ranked side in Test cricket, could add the ODI shield to the trophy cabinet, but it will not be an easy task.
“If India wins all its matches in the upcoming tri-nation series in Bangladesh starting on Monday, and Australia is well beaten by Pakistan in its five-ODI series that follows the ongoing Tests, Indian team will rise to the top of the ICC ODI Championship table,” an ICC statement said. Indian team will also have to hope for a 4-1 or worse series result for Ricky Ponting’s team, which would knock the World Cup champion off top spot in favour of India.Current ranking has Australia on top at 130 points, followed by India at second spot with 123 points and South Africa at third position with 119 points.
