Tanker train to help water scarce areas of Jharkhand
April 10th, 2011 - 6:34 pm ICT by ANIJamshedpur, Apr 10 (ANI): The railway authorities in Jharkhand allotted a tanker train to supply water to the water scarce regions of city.
With the temperature rising, people of Jamshedpur are undergoing severe water crisis.
They complain that they were dependent on river water and since the rivers are all dried up, they are facing great difficulty.
“The colonies and other settlement of Tatanagar were dependent on river water. Since this year there was a scarcity of water, the situation was getting serious day by day. We were not getting water from river,” said Suresh Methi, Head of Tatanagar Water Supplying Authority.
As per the initiative of the railways, the tanker train comprising of seven bogies would bring water from neighbouring states of West Bengal and Orissa.
It would supply water to all residential areas adjacent to Jamshedpur on a daily basis.
“The total requirement of Tatanagar settlement is 2.3 million gallons per day. We have reduced it to some extend by making many areas self-dependent. But this unloaded tanker which you are seeing now can distribute water to the colony for 24 hours,” Methi said.
The tanker had started functioning on a trial basis from April 09. (ANI)
