Take Interpol’s advantage to extend police cooperation: CBI chief
February 23rd, 2010 - 4:37 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ashwani Kumar on Tuesday called Interpol member states to take advantage of the platform to extend international police cooperation.
Addressing the inaugural session of the fourth Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs) Conference here, Kumar said: “Often language and lack of harmony in laws and procedures of the specific country come in way of execution of Letter Rogatory [LRs] and other requests under Interpol. But despite this, let us take advantage of the platform provided by Interpol in extending international police cooperation.”
He said that role of police comradeship; professional approach of officers and the role of technology are behind the secret of international police cooperation.
Kumar also highlighted the necessity for international cooperation in criminal matters, especially in the background of the rapid strides that India has made on the economic and information technology front.
Interpol, he said, is a unique platform for bringing law enforcement agencies of 188 countries together to fight crime and criminals, who threaten world peace.
The Interpol provides a common platform for member states to interact on mutual interests, through a 24 x 7 secure network.
The aim of the ILO meet was to familiarize officers about the functioning, capabilities and limitations of the Interpol, and to discuss issues related to assistance on investigations abroad and extradition of fugitives. (ANI)
