Swine flu case suspected in Moradabad
May 22nd, 2009 - 7:48 pm ICT by ANIMoradabad(UP), May 22 (ANI): Doctors at the District Hospital of Moradabad have isolated and quarantined a patient after he showed symptoms similar to the pandemic swine flu on Friday.
Exporter by profession, the patient had recently returned to Moradabad from a Europe tour.
Three days after his return, he developed feverish tendencies and his family doctor advised him to undergo a check up for H1N1 influenza.
“Three days after my return, I felt a fever today around 4:30 in the morning. So I took paracetamol and the fever went away. But I consulted with my family doctor and I called him also that my fever is around 99 degrees but the doctors said they want to take test because they don’t want to take any risk,” he said.
Consequently, a team of specialists rushed from Lucknow to collect certain samples of blood and urine of the patient to be sent to National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) for further analysis.
“We have collected a sample that we will send to National Institute of Communicable Disease. The institute will test the sample and confirm it to be positive or negative. Right now we are taking all the precautions,” said Dr. Mayank Dwivedi, a member of the team.
The first confirmed case of swine flu in India was reported from Hyderabad.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), around 7,500 people have been infected with the influenza strain that is a mixture of swine, bird and human viruses. So far, the H1N1 flu has claimed 65 lives in 34 countries. (ANI)
