New Delhi , June 16 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition seeking disqualification of 18 Rajasthan MLAs for allegedly violating their oath of office for taking a partisan stance on the ongoing Gujjar agitation.

Kashi Purohit in a petition alleged that the MLAs had violated the oath of their office by adopting a partisan stance instead of protecting the interests of people of Rajasthan during the ongoing Gujjar stir.

In response, a vacation Bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and G S Singhvi said that he could seek an alternative remedy with an appropriate court.

According to Purohit, the MLAs belonging to the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) made inflammatory speeches and practised competitive politics by either supporting or opposing the Gujjar stir.

The Gujjars are demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the community.(ANI)
