Supporting or withdrawing support is usual political procedure: Mulayam
March 6th, 2011 - 7:57 pm ICT by ANILucknow, Mar 6(ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday said that supporting a party or withdrawing support is a regular political procedure.
Mulayam’s comment comes after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) decided to pull out of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre after talks between the two parties on seat-sharing for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections failed.
“It is not a serious issue; it is an issue based on a tiff of Congress with the DMK on seat sharing and votes. It is not a big problem. If differences are coming in between them, what can be done, but still they are running the government together. They (six ministers of the DMK) will resign, but it is not sure whether the resignation will be accepted or not, the talks are on between ministers from Congress and DMK,” Mulayam said.
“It is not an important issue, supporting a party or withdrawing support is a usual procedure, which is a part of politics,” he added.
A month prior to the provincial assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, the DMK has said that its six ministers in the Union Cabinet would quit and the party would lend ‘only issue based support’ to the UPA government in New Delhi.
Elections on April 13 would choose a new 234-member legislature in Tamil Nadu.
The DMK is the second biggest ally in the UPA with 18 lawmakers in the Lok Sabha. (ANI)
